5th May 2012
Planning Open Meeting

Dear Residents of Speen and those interested in the Chapel

Thank you to all who were able to make the Planning Meeting on 30 April. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. For now this is just a short update to spell out our immediate next steps on the Planning Application.

1.	We will be withdrawing the existing Planning Application to provide more time to digest and take the benefit of the many good ideas that we have heard from you.

2.	We will convene a small working party with members of the Church and a few Speen residents to help enhance our designs.

3.	We recognise the strength of feeling about the design aesthetics and this will be the primary focus of the working group.

4.	We will withdraw any suggestions of a re-routing of the entrance road into the Church car park and leave the entrance where it currently is. This recognises the legitimate concerns of the residents of Pye Lane. We do, however, need a level pedestrian access to the Chapel, we propose to put a pedestrian path across the most level part of the land from the lower end of Pye Lane.

5.	We will invite comment on the revised plans as and when they are ready but before they are resubmitted to Wycombe District Council.

As stressed at the open meeting, we can’t promise to delight everyone with the revised designs as these are ultimately issues of individual taste. We are also hemmed in by practical constraints including Planning Regulation, but we hope we can see some significant improvement in the eyes of many.

We do need more space to meet the current needs of the work of the Church so our focus will be on aesthetic impact rather than absolute scale.

Ultimately the Church Members (that is those who have made a formal commitment to each other and been accepted into membership under the Church constitution) will need to decide upon the revised plans we submit but we look forward to working with the community in arriving at our decision.

Our purpose remains the worship of God both through what we preach and our actions in the wider community and around the world. In doing that we will endeavour to find the best balance between the conflicting aspirations of all interested parties.

Yours faithfully
James Entwisle
on behalf of the Deacons of Speen Baptist Church

April 2012
As part of the process to identify a new Minister for Speen, the Church has embarked on an exciting Welcome Project for 2012. Important to the programme is the optimisation of existing facilities.

Some of this work has begun:
Refurbishment of the Chapel was completed at the end of last year and has sensitively transformed the interior of the building. Brighter paintwork, improved lighting and ventilation and restored woodwork contribute to a welcoming environment suited to the contemporary life of the Church.

Speen Church is more than just the activities that take place in the building each week. We also seek to provide care and support for one another both within the church family and wider community.
This includes prayer and practical help, listening and encouraging one another, and running parenting and marriage courses from time to time to help equip us for the challenges of life.
For more information, please contact pastoralcare@speenchurch.org

Prayer Network
1 Peter 5v7, God encourages us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. Prayer is one of the ways we can enter into a dialogue and living relationship with Him and when we do this He responds: in ways that are invariably beyond our imagination. When circumstances become overwhelming, situations change unexpectedly; our ability to cope on our own is sometimes called into question.

The Prayer Network team undertakes to pray for those people and situations: confidentially and appropriately.

If you or someone you know would value this support, please send an email to prayernetwork@speenchurch.org
The detail can be as full or as limited as you wish.
We only communicate with the Network participants and no information is distributed.

Marriage Course
The Marriage Course is for any couple, whether you have been together for one year or 61 years and whether you feel you have a strong relationship or are struggling.
www.relationshipcentral.org/marriage-course
Please contact pastoralcare@speenchurch.org for further information about our next course

Parenting Course
Being a parent is a wonderful thing, however it is not always easy. Time Out for Parents is designed to build your confidence as a parent as you discover techniques to guide, nurture and encourage your child through the joys and challenges of parenthood.
www.parenting.org.uk
Please contact pastoralcare@speenchurch.org for further information about our next course

Freedom in Christ
Becoming a Christian is the first step on an exciting journey with Jesus. Freedom in Christ is a discipleship course which encourages Christians to seize hold of the Truth about Jesus that sets us free from the baggage of the past and enables us to move on into maturity.

Please contact pastoralcare@speenchurch.org for further information about our next course

OUR VISION
Together, in Jesus. Empowered, by the Spirit of God. Effective, to fulfil His purpose.

OUR MISSION
1. LOOKING TO GOD
We want a dynamic encounter with Jesus through worship and praise, the truth of scripture and the inspiration and empowerment of the Spirit of God.
Knowing God and being known by Him who accepts everyone with equal love and generosity.
Seeking God and discovering his purposes and plans in openness, vulnerability and truth.

2. LOOKING TO ONE ANOTHER
We are open, accessible and authentic.
We recognise the potential of every generation to fully participate in the life of the church family in accountable, loving and caring relationships.
We believe in the power of prayer for physical and spiritual healing.
We believe that all gifts, practical and spiritual, enable the fulfillment of our collective and individual purpose as responsible and generous stewards.
We model the love of Jesus for all: accepting and without judgement, with encouragement and equality.

3. LOOKING TO THE WORLD
We are a bright light, bringing to life the amazing truth of Jesus that God has for our communities.
We are welcoming, hospitable and generous – accepting the needy whoever they are.
We want to be influential within Speen and beyond our boundaries: sharing the relevance and reality of Jesus through effective relationships in neighbouring villages, in local towns, nationally and internationally.

OUR VALUES
