Happy Birthday!

June has been a bumper month for Birthdays in Speen Church with at least 5 in the last few days alone including Rosi and Tim who share the same birthday!  Here are some of the Birthday boys and girls enjoying their special day.....

BBQ Table Update

You may remember at the beginning of lockdown, Chris started a project to build a BBQ table out of some pallets and bits of wood he found in the garage.  Here is the finished table in action - he even made and cooked the burgers!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father’s Day to all Dads and Grandads!  We are thankful that we have our own heavenly Father who loves each one of us unconditionally and completely:

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1John3:1

One Can Make a Difference in Bryants Bottom

The first donations were made this week to the new One Can Food Drop Box outside Janis and Richard's home in Bryants Bottom. Food Drop boxes like this are springing up in streets and villages all over the High Wycombe area providing opportunity for folk to help make a difference to the rising number of folk in crisis in our communities as the impact of the virus deepens.  All you need is a box and a simple sign! Details HERE.

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter.." Isaiah 58:6-7

A Very Special New Arrival!

Praise God and congratulations to Rosi and Tim on the birth of their first grandchild, Lia, to Rodrigo and Dani. Lia arrived last Sunday evening a few weeks ahead of schedule, however, Tim and Rosi are delighted to report that both mum and baby are doing well and hoping to come home from hospital very soon!

Making Tracks...

Kevin has been busy during lockdown...

"A few weeks ago, I decided to try and take advantage of having a bit of extra time by procuring some recording equipment and software. Anyway, turns out it was rather more difficult to get to grips with than I had naively anticipated! However, a breakthrough was finally achieved, so I am pleased to say the first fruits of my efforts is attached.

It's a cover version of the Bruce Springsteen song ‘The ghost of Tom Joad’, which was inspired by the John Steinbeck novel ‘The Grapes of Wrath’. Having just finished reading that book, it seemed an appropriate place to start. If you haven’t read it, it’s a novel about the miserable plight and brutal treatment of internally displaced refugees in 1930s America, and I found the contemporary resonances very striking.

There is still an infinite amount to learn about the recording process, but I’m reasonably satisfied with this first effort, which features a guest appearance from Bethany on backing vocals, to bolster my rudimentary guitar/vocal/harmonica/mandolin. The ultimate goal is to get round finally to recording all my own songs, to compile into an album (if those are still a thing!)."

Sitting Comfortably

Megan is sitting very comfortably in her new chair thanks to Michael who arranged installation and took away her old one last week.

David and Kate's Garden

Kate and David are making the most of this season working in their beautiful garden whenever possible.  They have been encouraging friends and neighbours to "grow their own" by sharing extra seedlings as part of the community Veg Patch Pals initiative, and blessing folk with Kate's lovely flowers.

Transformation Challenge - Chris

Chris has been transforming some old pallets he found in the garage into a BBQ table - the family are hoping it will be finished in time for the next bout of BBQ weather!

Busy Sewing Bees - Jenny P

Jenny has been busy co-ordinating Speen WI ladies and friends (including Angela) to make laundry bags for NHS hospitals, Care Homes, District Nursing Teams, Health Visitors and other community workers.  Speen WI originally pledged 50 but made 126 bags! It was a great effort facilitated by Tim and Rosi who collected and delivered sheets and duvet covers all around Speen, Bryants Bottom and Princes Risborough for the 'sewers' and took the finished bags to the distribution point in Saunderton.  A lovely example of people getting together to "make a difference" and bless those who are sacrificially working to support others at this time of crisis.
